Is Hootsuite Legit?
Hootsuite is legit: a Vancouver software company founded in 2008, with published Terms, a privacy policy and thousands of verified user reviews.
Our Hootsuite review finds a legit, feature-rich social media management tool that schedules, answers and reports across 11 networks, from $99 per user per month billed annually. It has no free plan, sells every plan per seat, and its Terms say cancelling does not refund the rest of your term. Teams get a lot for the money; solo creators and small businesses usually pay for more than they use.
Hootsuite is legit and worth it for teams that use its inbox, analytics and approvals, but rarely for one person who only schedules posts. Here are the six answers buyers ask for most.
Hootsuite is legit: a Vancouver software company founded in 2008, with published Terms, a privacy policy and thousands of verified user reviews.
Hootsuite has no free plan. It ended its free plan on March 31, 2023, and now offers only a 14-day free trial.
Hootsuite costs $99 per user per month on Standard, $199 on Professional and up to $399 on Advanced, billed annually and before tax.
Hootsuite is best for marketing teams, agencies and enterprises that need a shared inbox, approvals, listening and reports, not just a posting calendar.
Hootsuite lets you cancel anytime, but its Terms say you keep paying for the rest of your plan term and get no refund.
Hootsuite's main drawback is price: per-seat plans add up fast, and the cheapest one costs more than most rivals' team plans.
Hootsuite scores best on scheduling, publishing and analytics, and weakest on pricing, support and billing, where per-seat costs and a no-refund cancellation rule weigh it down. Here is each factor in one line.
Hootsuite publishes to 11 networks with bulk scheduling, approvals and Canva templates, and Standard lists unlimited scheduled posts.
Hootsuite includes reports and benchmarks for 5 competitors on Standard, rising to custom reports and 20 competitors on Professional.
Hootsuite starts at $99 per user per month billed annually, has no free plan, and Capterra users rate its value lowest.
Hootsuite scores 4.3 for ease of use on Capterra, but Reddit users call the interface clunky, busy or outdated.
Hootsuite offers tickets, dashboard messages and social support, but lists no live chat or phone and keeps weekday office hours.
Hootsuite renews plans automatically, its Terms refuse refunds after cancelling, and Trustpilot reviewers report charges they did not expect.
Hootsuite is a legit, full-featured social media management platform, but at $99 per user per month with no free plan, it suits teams far better than solo creators. Read the Terms before you pay: cancelling stops the next renewal but does not refund the rest of your term.
Our bottom line
Hootsuite
hootsuite.com · Social media management platform for teams
A capable all-in-one tool whose price and billing terms, not its features, are the main risk.
Hootsuite covers publishing, a shared inbox, analytics, listening and Wisdom AI across 11 networks, with a 14-day trial that its plans page says needs no card. But plans are sold per seat, renew automatically, and its Terms say cancelling does not entitle you to a refund for the rest of the term.
Hootsuite pricing starts at $99 per user per month for Standard, then $199 for Professional and up to $399 for Advanced, all billed annually.
Billed annually, before tax, read on hootsuite.com/plans on Oct 16, 2026. Advanced is listed as "up to $399". Month-to-month billing costs more per user, but the page does not show that rate.

Check these five things before paying for Hootsuite, because most billing complaints trace back to seats, renewals or the trial.
Hootsuite reviews on Reddit and Quora praise its multi-account features but complain about price, a dated interface and slow support. Gemini, Grok and ChatGPT all call it powerful but built for teams.

Hootsuite is a social media management platform at hootsuite.com that lets teams schedule posts, answer messages, track analytics and monitor conversations across 11 networks from one dashboard.
Hootsuite sells software subscriptions, not followers, likes or views. You connect your own business accounts, then plan, publish and measure your content from one place. Its help center now calls the product "Hootsuite Social OS", and every plan includes Wisdom, which Hootsuite describes as "your AI teammate".
The company behind it is Hootsuite Inc., named in its Terms with an address at 111 East 5th Ave, Vancouver, under British Columbia law. It was founded in 2008, is privately held, and bought the listening company Talkwalker in 2024. Its homepage claims "18 years and 25 million users" and calls Hootsuite "G2's #1 best software product for 2026"; we treat both as company claims.
Because BestSitesToBuy mostly reviews engagement sellers, it is worth being clear: Hootsuite is a different category. It helps you grow by posting and replying consistently, inside each platform's rules. If you came here comparing paid follower services, our guide to the best sites to buy Instagram followers explains that market and its risks.

Hootsuite features cover five areas: scheduling and publishing, a unified inbox, analytics and benchmarks, social listening and AI writing tools, with deeper versions on higher plans.
| Feature area | What Hootsuite includes | Where it is limited |
|---|---|---|
| Publishing | Scheduling, bulk scheduling, approval workflows, Canva and Adobe Express templates; Standard lists "unlimited social posts" | The unlimited posts claim carries an unexplained asterisk; trials allow 10 to 20 posts a day and no bulk scheduling |
| Inbox | Messages and comments in one place, saved replies, auto-responders, automated DMs | Standard has "one inbox"; assignment and auto-routing start on Advanced |
| Analytics | Post performance, sentiment, industry benchmarks, scheduled reports; 5 competitor benchmarks on Standard | Custom reports and 20 benchmarks need Professional; team performance needs Advanced |
| Listening | Brand and competitor monitoring; Professional adds a 30-day Quick Search | 13 months of history and advanced listening are Enterprise only |
| AI (Wisdom) | Post and image generation on Standard; AI smart replies and 90-day trend forecasting on Professional | Which AI tools sit on which plan is shown only in part on the plans page |
Hootsuite also lists integrations with Salesforce, HubSpot, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Zapier and others, and Enterprise add-ons for employee advocacy and reviews. The platform page describes no ad-buying feature.
Hootsuite Wisdom AI writes posts and images on every plan, and adds smart replies and 90-day trend forecasting from Professional upward. The platform page also lists an AI writer, a post idea generator and best-time-to-post suggestions. Hootsuite says its MCP connectors work with ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot and Gemini, so teams can reach Hootsuite data from those assistants. As with any AI writer, check facts and tone before posting.
Hootsuite supports 11 networks in its help center: Instagram (Business), Facebook, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, Pinterest, Bluesky, WhatsApp (Business) and Google Business Profile.
Connecting an X account needs an X password, because Google or Apple sign-in is not supported. Inbox and analytics coverage can differ by network, so check the features you need during the trial.

Hootsuite reports engagement in its analytics, and Standard benchmarks you against 5 competitors. For a quick check on a single profile without a subscription, our free Instagram engagement rate calculator works from your public numbers, which helps you decide whether paid reporting is worth it yet.
Hootsuite pricing runs from $99 per user per month on Standard to $199 on Professional and up to $399 on Advanced, billed annually and before tax, with custom Enterprise pricing. Each extra team member is another seat at the same rate.
| Plan | Per user / month | Social accounts | Main additions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | $99 | 10 | Unlimited scheduling, AI posts and images, one inbox, analytics, 5 competitor benchmarks |
| Professional | $199 | Unlimited | AI smart replies, trend forecasting, automated replies, custom reports, 20 benchmarks, Quick Search |
| Advanced | Up to $399 | Unlimited | Inbox assignment and routing, advanced reporting, team performance |
| Enterprise | Custom | Unlimited | Advanced inbox, analytics and listening, ROI reporting, 13 months of listening data |
Billed annually, before tax, read on hootsuite.com/plans on October 16, 2026. The page offers monthly billing at a higher per-user rate but does not show it.
Hootsuite accepts Visa, Mastercard, Discover, JCB and PayPal. Its FAQ warns that "Some features are only available with multiple user seats".

Hootsuite costs a team its per-user price times the number of seats: on Standard, three users cost $297 a month and five users $495, billed annually. That is our maths from the listed $99 price, before tax. Five Standard seats come to $5,940 a year, and five Professional seats to $11,940 a year. Per-seat billing is the most common complaint in the Reddit thread above, where a 2026 reply says it "adds up fast".

Hootsuite does not have a free plan: it ended its free tier on March 31, 2023, and its plans page lists only a 14-day free trial. Older articles and a six-year-old Quora answer still describe a free account with three social profiles, which no longer exists. If you need a free tool, Buffer, Agorapulse and Metricool each list a free plan on their own pricing pages.
The Hootsuite free trial lasts 14 days on Standard, Professional or Advanced, and its plans page says it needs no credit card and will not charge you automatically. Enterprise uses a demo instead.
There is a catch. Hootsuite's Terms, last modified July 29, 2025, say it "may require you to provide a valid credit card" for a trial and "will charge you automatically on the first day after the free trial is over, unless you cancel or downgrade". The plans page is newer and more specific, but if a card was taken when you signed up, cancel or downgrade before day 14 to be safe. One Trustpilot reviewer in March 2026 wrote they "still got charged $150 after the trial period".
Hootsuite is legit and safe to use: it is an 18-year-old software company with published Terms, a privacy policy, and verified scores of 4.3 on G2 and 4.4 on Capterra. The real risks are billing terms and price, not fraud.
We could verify its company details, plan prices, trial rules, networks, support hours and public ratings, but not the "25 million users" figure, the "#1" G2 claims or the month-to-month price. Unlike engagement sellers, Hootsuite publishes your own content, so the ban risks of bought followers do not apply.
Hootsuite says it keeps your data "only for as long as necessary" and does not "sell" it "in the traditional sense". Its privacy policy, updated May 2, 2025, offers an opt-out for ad-partner sharing. Services are managed from Canada, and you can request deletion at [email protected].
Some users boycott Hootsuite over its reported US government work, which several Reddit replies and recent Trustpilot reviews cite. In 2020, Hootsuite backed out of a planned ICE contract after employee objections, according to The Logic. In January 2026, BetaKit reported a Department of Homeland Security contract, awarded in July 2024 through a third-party contractor, giving US Customs and Border Protection access to Hootsuite support services and Talkwalker. Hootsuite told BetaKit it "does not comment on current, former, or potential customer" relationships. We report this as published; it does not change how the software works, but some buyers weigh it.
Hootsuite is easy enough for daily use, scoring 4.3 for ease of use on Capterra, but many users call its interface busy, dated or clumsy for multi-client work.
A communications manager in the Reddit thread calls Hootsuite "very intuitive" for managing several accounts and scheduling. Other replies describe a "complex interface", a user interface "still in stone age era", and an agency where colleagues mixed up clients when answering comments. A 2026 reply names "a busy/cluttered UI" as a lasting complaint. Capterra's most common negative theme is "Frequent glitches and connectivity problems", and a Trustpilot reviewer in February 2026 wrote "Everything is buggy."
Users rate Hootsuite's software well and its billing poorly: 4.3 on G2 and 4.4 on Capterra, but 1.3 on Trustpilot. Those scores come from 7,506, 3,804 and 556 reviews.

Hootsuite's cancellation policy lets you cancel or downgrade anytime, but its Terms say you keep paying for the rest of your plan term and are "not entitled to a refund".
| Policy | What Hootsuite says | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Cancelling | "You may cancel or downgrade your Self-Serve Services plan at any time" (Terms §24). | You still pay "for the rest of your plan term". |
| Refunds | "you are not entitled to a refund" after cancelling or downgrading (§24). | An annual plan cancelled in month two is still owed in full. |
| Renewal | Plans "renew automatically at the end of the term" (§22). | Cancel before the renewal date to avoid another term. |
| Free trial | Plans page: no card, no automatic charge. Terms §20: a card may be required and charged after the trial. | The two pages disagree; check what you entered at sign-up. |
| Termination by Hootsuite | No refund if you broke its Acceptable Use rules; a refund for unused service if it ends your access "for no reason" (§25). | Hootsuite can also change prices or suspend services (§3). |
In practice, annual billing is the cheaper rate but the bigger commitment, because cancelling only stops the next renewal. If you are unsure, start monthly, note the renewal date and keep the cancellation confirmation email.

Hootsuite customer support runs on help tickets, messages from the dashboard and @Hootsuite_Help on X and Facebook, with weekday office hours and no live chat or phone line listed.
Its contact page lists support hours of Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in several time zones (PST, CST, EST, EET and CET, with Asia-Pacific variants), in English, French and Spanish. The social accounts are described as "24/7 social media support". Enterprise customers email an account representative. A self-service help center covers setup and billing.
Public feedback on support is weak: a Reddit reply says "Support is very slow", and a Trustpilot reviewer in August 2026 wrote "It can take days and days to receive an email response". Capterra users rate it 4.2.
Hootsuite's main pros are its all-in-one features, 11 networks and strong user ratings, and its main cons are per-seat pricing, no free plan and a no-refund cancellation rule. This Hootsuite review weighs each point against its plans page, Terms and public reviews, so you can judge whether the trade-off works for your team.
Hootsuite's biggest advantage is breadth: one login covers publishing, a shared inbox, analytics, listening and AI across 11 networks. Most cheaper tools do one or two of these well; Hootsuite does all of them, which is why Gemini and Grok both call it enterprise-ready.
Hootsuite's main drawback is cost: plans start at $99 per user per month, with no free plan. Custom reports and inbox routing sit on the $199 and $399 tiers.
Hootsuite's pros outweigh the cons for teams of three or more who use the inbox, approvals and reporting every day, because those features replace several separate tools. For a solo creator or a small shop that mostly schedules posts, the cons win: you pay $99 a month or more for depth you will not use, and you cannot get the rest of an annual term back if you change your mind. Is Hootsuite worth it? Only when the team features earn their seat price.
The best Hootsuite alternatives are Buffer and Metricool for free plans, Sprout Social for enterprise teams, Later for visuals, SocialPilot for agencies and Agorapulse for inboxes. All of them cost less to start than Hootsuite's $99 per user.
| Tool | Cheapest paid plan | Free plan | Free trial | How it charges |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hootsuite | $99 / user / mo (annual) | No | 14 days | Per user |
| Buffer | $5 / channel / mo | Yes, 3 channels | 14 days | Per channel |
| Sprout Social | $79 / seat / mo (annual) | No | 30 days | Per seat |
| Later | $18.75 / mo (yearly) | No | 14 days | Per plan |
| SocialPilot | $25 / mo (annual) | No | 14 days | Per plan |
| Agorapulse | $79 / user / mo | Yes | 30 days | Per user |
| Metricool | $20 / mo (annual) | Yes, 1 brand | Not listed | Per plan |
Prices read from each tool's own pricing page on October 16, 2026, before tax. Self-reported and subject to change. BSTB has not yet reviewed these tools.

Buffer is the cheapest Hootsuite alternative here, with a free plan for 3 channels and paid plans from $5 per channel a month. Its Team plan adds unlimited users at $10 per channel. Best for: solo creators and small businesses that mainly schedule.

Sprout Social is the closest like-for-like Hootsuite alternative, priced per seat from $79 a month billed annually ($99 monthly). Its entry plan has 5 profiles and a 30-day free trial. Best for: teams that want an enterprise tool with a longer trial.

SocialPilot review coming soon
Agorapulse starts at $79 per user a month for 10 profiles, offers a free plan, and gives a 30-day trial with no card. Like Hootsuite, it charges per user. Best for: teams that spend most of their day in the social inbox.
Agorapulse review coming soon
Metricool has a free plan for one brand with up to 20 scheduled posts a month, then paid plans from $20 a month on annual billing for 5 brands. Its free plan excludes LinkedIn and X. Best for: small brands that want analytics on a budget.
Metricool review coming soonHootsuite and Sprout Social are the closest match on features and pricing model: both charge per seat and target teams. Sprout Social's entry seat is listed at $79 a month billed annually against Hootsuite's $99, and its free trial runs 30 days against 14. Hootsuite's Standard plan includes 10 social accounts against Sprout Social's 5. Run both trials on the same workflow before committing to an annual term.
The right Hootsuite alternative depends on what you want to change: the price, the pricing model or the feature focus.
You get more from Hootsuite by testing it on your real workflow, batching content, working from one inbox and reviewing reports monthly, so every paid seat earns its price. These habits matter more than which plan you pick.

Hootsuite's 14-day trial is the only free way to use it, so treat it as a real test: connect every network, schedule a week of posts and answer real messages. Best for: anyone deciding between plans.
Start with the trial checklist above
Hootsuite's bulk scheduling, Canva templates and AI drafts let you plan a full week in one sitting after the trial. Best for: small teams short on time.
Bulk scheduling is not in the trial
Hootsuite's inbox gathers comments and messages, with saved replies and, on Advanced, assignment to teammates. Best for: brands handling customer questions on social.

Hootsuite reports and competitor benchmarks show which posts work, so you can repeat them. Best for: teams that report results to a manager or client.
Benchmarks start on StandardYour Hootsuite bill falls fastest when you pay only for the seats and tier you actually use.
Hootsuite is not worth the money when one person mostly schedules posts to a few accounts, because cheaper tools with free plans do that job. For AI writing and planning help on a smaller budget, browse BSTB's list of AI tools for social media.
Hootsuite suits marketing teams, agencies and enterprises that manage several brands or many accounts and use its inbox, approvals and reports daily. Solo creators and very small businesses that mostly schedule posts should start with a cheaper tool and move up later.
Hootsuite is a good buy only if you answer yes to most of the five questions below; two or more noes point to a cheaper alternative.
Hootsuite is usually too expensive for solo creators and small businesses that mostly need a posting calendar. Grok's answer calls it "no longer competitive for individuals or small setups", and a six-year-old Quora answer already said it is "not much favorable for small companies".
Hootsuite is good for enterprises and many agencies, because approvals, inbox routing, listening and custom reports are built for teams. Agencies should still do the per-seat maths, since flat-priced tools like SocialPilot can cost less with many users.
Anyone who mainly schedules posts alone, or who cannot commit to a non-refundable term, should avoid Hootsuite.
Our Hootsuite review rates it Fair: it is a legit, powerful platform that is worth it for teams, but expensive per seat and strict on refunds for everyone else.
Hootsuite does a lot well: publishing, inbox, analytics, listening and AI in one place, 11 networks, strong scores of 4.3 on G2 and 4.4 on Capterra, and a 14-day trial. But it starts at $99 per user per month with no free plan, locks deeper features behind $199 and $399 tiers, renews automatically, refuses refunds after cancelling, and describes trial billing differently on its plans page and in its Terms. Trustpilot's 1.3 score reflects those billing complaints. Teams that use it daily will get their money's worth; solo users usually will not. Our rating: Fair.
We reviewed Hootsuite by reading its plans page, homepage, platform page, Terms of Service, privacy policy, contact page and help-center setup guides on October 16, 2026. We compared these with public scores on G2, Capterra and Trustpilot, the client-supplied Reddit, Quora and AI screenshots, news reports on its contracts, and six competitors' own pricing pages. We did not use a Hootsuite account; plan and feature details come from Hootsuite's own pages. Read how we test every provider.

Hootsuite is worth it in 2026 for teams that use its inbox, approvals and reports every day, but rarely for one person who only schedules posts.
Plans start at $99 per user per month billed annually, with no free plan, so the value depends on how many of its features you use. See how we review tools and sellers for our method.
Run the 14-day trial on your real weekly workflow before you choose a plan.
Yes, Hootsuite is legit: Hootsuite Inc. is a Vancouver software company founded in 2008, with published Terms, a privacy policy and thousands of verified user reviews.
It sells software subscriptions, not followers or engagement, so it does not carry the platform-rule risks of the sellers in our BSTB reviews.
Legit is not the same as cheap: read the billing terms before you pay.
Hootsuite costs $99 per user per month on Standard, $199 on Professional and up to $399 on Advanced, billed annually and before tax, with custom Enterprise pricing.
Monthly billing is available on the three self-serve plans at a higher per-user rate, but the plans page does not show that price. Every extra team member is another seat.
Count your seats first, because per-user billing is where the cost grows.
No, Hootsuite has no free plan: it ended its free tier on March 31, 2023, and now offers only a 14-day free trial on its paid plans.
Older articles still describe a free account with three social profiles, which no longer exists. For free AI help with captions and planning, browse our list of AI tools for social media.
If a free plan matters, compare the tools above before starting a Hootsuite trial.
The Hootsuite free trial lasts 14 days on Standard, Professional or Advanced, and its plans page says it needs no credit card and does not auto-charge.
To keep using Hootsuite afterwards, you choose a paid plan and enter payment details. The trial has limits that the paid plans do not.
Connect every network and test the inbox during the trial, not just scheduling.
Hootsuite's plans page says it will not charge you automatically after the trial, but its Terms say a card may be required and charged the day after the trial ends.
The plans page FAQ is newer and more specific, but the two pages disagree. If you are unsure what applies to your account, contact BSTB and we will re-check the current wording.
If you entered a card, cancel or downgrade before day 14 and keep the confirmation.
Yes, Hootsuite lets you cancel or downgrade anytime, but its Terms say you must keep paying for the rest of your plan term.
Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not end the current billing period early. That matters most on annual billing, which is the cheaper rate.
Put your renewal date in a calendar and cancel a few weeks before it if you plan to leave.
No, Hootsuite generally does not give refunds: its Terms say that if you cancel or downgrade, "you are not entitled to a refund" for the rest of the term.
The only refund case in the Terms is when Hootsuite itself ends your access for no reason, in which case it refunds service you have not yet received.
Start on monthly billing until you are sure, so a change of mind costs one month, not a year.
Hootsuite supports 11 networks in its help center: Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, Pinterest, Bluesky, WhatsApp and Google Business Profile.

Hootsuite is usually too expensive for small businesses that mainly schedule posts, because the cheapest plan costs $99 per user per month and there is no free plan.
It can still pay off for a small business that answers many customer messages on social, since the inbox and reports replace other tools.
Add up a year of seats and compare it with the tools you would replace.
Hootsuite works for many agencies thanks to approvals, unlimited accounts from Professional and custom reports, but per-seat pricing can make it costly with large teams.
One Reddit user found it "a bit clumsy" for an agency with many clients. Our BSTB blog covers growth tools and tactics for client work.
Model your seat count across clients before signing an annual term.
Hootsuite is easy enough for daily users, with a 4.3 ease-of-use score on Capterra, but many reviewers call the interface busy, dated or glitchy.
Experiences split by role: people who live in the dashboard tend to praise it, while occasional users and multi-client agencies report friction.
Use the trial with the person who will run Hootsuite day to day, not only the buyer.
You contact Hootsuite customer support through a help ticket, a message from your dashboard, or @Hootsuite_Help on X and Facebook, with Enterprise customers emailing an account rep.
No live chat or support phone line is listed. If information on this page is out of date, let BSTB know.
Use a ticket for billing issues so you keep a written record.
Yes, Hootsuite is safe to connect your accounts to: it is an established software company that publishes your own content through each network's connection process.
Unlike engagement sellers, it does not add fake followers or likes, so it does not break platform rules by design. Your data is covered by its privacy policy.
Give team members their own seats and permissions instead of sharing one login.

Government-contract reports matter to some buyers; check current news if that is a factor for you.
Yes, Hootsuite does social listening: every plan monitors your brand and competitors, Professional adds a 30-day Quick Search, and Enterprise adds 13 months of history.
Hootsuite bought the listening company Talkwalker in 2024, and its platform page claims coverage of 30+ social networks, 300+ review sites and 150+ million websites.
If listening is the main reason to buy, test search depth during the trial.
People mostly leave Hootsuite over price, per-seat billing and the interface, and some leave over its reported US government contracts.
Reddit replies repeatedly call it "heavy on the pocket". For a sense of how BSTB compares tools and sellers, see how we test.
If price is your reason, check whether a cheaper tool covers your must-have features.
The best Hootsuite alternatives are Buffer and Metricool for free plans, Sprout Social for enterprise teams, Later for visual planning, SocialPilot for agencies and Agorapulse for inbox work.
All start below Hootsuite's $99 per user. BSTB has not reviewed these tools yet; our reviews hub lists what we have covered so far.
Pick by what you want to change: price, pricing model or feature focus.
Buffer is better for solo users and small budgets, while Hootsuite is better for teams that need a shared inbox, listening, approvals and detailed reports.
Buffer charges per channel and has a free plan; Hootsuite charges per user and has none. Several Reddit replies name Buffer as the cheaper option.
Start with Buffer's free plan if you only schedule; move up when the team grows.
