What is MaxAI.me?
MaxAI.me is a browser extension that opens an AI assistant beside any webpage, so you can question an article, summarise a video or draft a reply in place. It also runs as a web app.
The extension reads the page you are on, adds your prompt and sends both to a model you pick. The pricing page lists options such as GPT-5.1, Claude Sonnet and Gemini 2.5 Pro for paid users, and the Chrome Web Store listing also names Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral and Llama models. A context menu appears when you select text, offering rewrites, translation and explanations.
The developer, MaxAI, now runs its main site at maxai.co, which claims more than 1 million active users and a 4.8 average rating. The Chrome Web Store listing showed a more modest 700,000 users, a 4.7 rating from about 14,500 reviews and an update dated 24 August 2026 when we checked.
Key Features
Page-aware chat drives MaxAI.me: the sidebar already knows what you are reading, so questions about an article, PDF or video need no copying or pasting.
- AI sidebar: A panel opens beside the current tab and answers questions about its content. Toolify reports Alt+J (Cmd+J on Mac) as the shortcut, so you can summarise or query a page without touching the mouse.
- YouTube, PDF and image chat: MaxAI summarises YouTube videos and lets you ask questions of local PDF files and images. This saves watching a full lecture or reading a long report just to find one answer.
- Model choice: You can switch between OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI and DeepSeek models in one window. Comparing how two models answer the same question takes a few clicks rather than two separate subscriptions.
- Writing and reply tools: Selected text can be rewritten, shortened, corrected or changed in tone. In Gmail and LinkedIn the extension drafts replies from the thread, and Toolify lists Alt+I as the compose shortcut.
- Bilingual translation: Whole pages can be translated with the original and translated text shown side by side. The store listing says the interface supports 55 languages, including Arabic, Hindi, Japanese and Korean.
- Search and image generation: AI search returns answers with cited sources you can open and check. Pro users also get image generation, with the pricing page naming GPT-Image-1, DALL-E 3 and FLUX models.
Pros
Breadth for the price is the strongest case for MaxAI.me: one Pro plan at $12 a month on annual billing covers several model providers plus image generation.
- Many models, one bill: Pro includes models from OpenAI, Anthropic and Google at once. Users who would otherwise pay for two or three chat apps can test each model on the same task.
- Works where you read: The assistant appears on most pages, including Gmail, Google Docs and YouTube. Students and writers avoid constant copying between a source tab and a separate chat tab.
- Usable free plan: Free users get unlimited chat with a fast model plus 3 Pro chats a day. That is enough for light summarising and rewriting before you decide on a subscription.
- Strong multilingual support: Side-by-side translation and 55 interface languages suit people working across markets. Support staff can read a foreign message and draft a reply in the same panel.
- Frequent updates: The store listing showed an update in August 2026, and newer models appear on the pricing page. Active maintenance matters for an extension that depends on fast-moving model providers.
Cons
Soft limits behind the word “unlimited” are the chief frustration, with reviews reporting fair-use caps on heavy Pro usage despite the plan’s wording.
- Fair-use caps: Reviewers say very heavy users meet throttling on unlimited plans. If you plan bulk summarising or long research sessions, test your typical daily volume before paying for a year.
- No refunds: The pricing page states that all payments are final and non-refundable. Choosing annual billing at the discounted rate therefore commits you, so a free-plan trial first is sensible.
- Chromium browsers only: Official extensions cover Chrome and Edge, plus a web app. Firefox and Safari users cannot get the in-page sidebar and must rely on the web app instead.
- Broad page access: The extension reads page content to work, including email threads you ask it to reply to. Toolify also notes limited detail on privacy practices, so be careful with confidential material.
- Model naming confusion: The store listing and pricing page name different model versions. It can be hard to know which exact model answered your question, which matters when accuracy is critical.
Who is Using MaxAI.me?
Students, marketers and researchers make up the core audience, according to the use cases MaxAI lists on its own site.
- Students: Learners summarise articles, papers and lecture videos, and generate study quizzes. Use it to understand material, and follow your institution’s rules on AI help for assessed work.
- Marketers: Teams draft social posts, slogans and sales emails in the browser. The rewrite tools help adapt one message to several tones or channels quickly.
- Researchers: Analysts compare sources using cited search answers and PDF chat. Checking claims against linked sources is quicker than running separate searches.
- Support and sales staff: Agents draft replies in Gmail, Outlook and LinkedIn. Translation helps them answer customers who write in other languages.
Pricing
MaxAI.me is freemium, with Pro at $12 per member a month on annual billing (official prices, October 2026).
| Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Unlimited fast model chat, 3 Pro chats a day, limited uploads |
| Pro (annual) | $12 per member a month | Unlimited Pro chat, smarter models, image generation, higher upload limits, team management |
| Pro (monthly) | $30 per member a month | Same features without the yearly commitment |
The older maxai.me pricing page and some directories still show Pro at $20 and Elite at $19 to $40, which no longer match the current site.
Disclaimer: the yearly rate is labelled a limited-time 60 per cent discount and payments are non-refundable, so confirm the total at checkout.
What Makes MaxAI.me Unique?
One extension combines page-aware chat with models from several rival providers, so you can ask Claude and then Gemini about the same article without a second subscription.
Many sidebar tools tie you to a single model family. MaxAI.me instead treats the model as a setting, and pairs that with writing, translation, search and image tools in the same panel. The trade-off is less depth in any one area than a dedicated tool.
Compatibilities and Integrations
Chrome and Edge are the supported browsers, with a web app covering other devices, and the extension works on most websites without per-site setup.
- Browsers: Chrome, Edge and other Chromium browsers, plus the web app.
- Sites: Gmail, Outlook, LinkedIn, Google Docs, YouTube and local PDF files.
- Models: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI, Meta, Mistral and DeepSeek models.
- Image models: GPT-Image-1, DALL-E 3 and FLUX for Pro image generation.
- API: No public API, and automated use is not permitted.

Summary
MaxAI.me suits students, writers and researchers who want AI help on every page without paying for several chat apps. Its mix of models, translation and reply drafting covers most everyday browser tasks. The main limitation is the fair-use cap behind the unlimited label, combined with a no-refund policy. Firefox and Safari users also miss out on the sidebar. Use the free plan for a week on your normal workload before choosing annual Pro.
