What is Flowstep?
Flowstep is a browser-based AI design tool that turns a written brief into connected, editable interface screens for apps and websites. You describe a product, optionally attach a screenshot, link or PRD, and it returns layouts already wired into a clickable prototype.
Each screen is generated 1:1 with code, so what you see on the canvas matches what a developer receives. You can keep refining through chat or switch to manual editing, and colleagues can work on the same file with live cursors. Design guidelines for colour, type and spacing carry across every new generation, which keeps a growing project consistent.
The terms name FlowstepDesign OÜ, an Estonian company, as operator, and EveryDev reports a 2023 founding by former Revolut, Bolt and Unity designers. Flowstep 1.0 launched on Product Hunt in May 2026, where Toolradar reports it collected about 190 upvotes. Its homepage and pricing page loaded normally when we checked in early October 2026.
Key Features
Multi-screen generation and the MCP server matter most in Flowstep, because together they carry an idea from prompt to clickable flow to code in one place.
- Prompt to UI: Flowstep turns text prompts, screenshots, product URLs or PRD documents into designed interface screens. Using a reference image or an existing product page gives it a visual starting point, so results look less generic.
- Multi-screen flows: One prompt can produce a complete user journey, such as onboarding, a dashboard and settings, rather than a single mock-up. The screens arrive linked as a clickable prototype you can preview and share by link.
- Chat and canvas editing: You can ask for changes in plain English or move, resize and restyle elements directly on the canvas. Mixing both modes lets you fix small details by hand without spending a message on them.
- Design guidelines: Central rules for colours, typography and spacing apply to every screen you generate afterwards. This keeps a twenty-screen project visually consistent and saves you restating brand details in each prompt.
- Two-way Figma copy: Frames paste from Flowstep into Figma, and Figma frames paste back in as editable screens, with no plugin required. Starter users get unlimited Figma copies each month, so moving work between tools costs nothing extra.
- MCP server for coding agents: Cursor, Claude Code, Windsurf and Codex can read your Flowstep designs over the Model Context Protocol. Developers then build from the actual screens rather than from screenshots pasted into a chat.
Pros
Speed from brief to clickable prototype is Flowstep’s strongest point: a detailed prompt can return several linked, editable screens in seconds.
- Fast first drafts: Flowstep removes the blank canvas by producing whole flows from one description. Product managers can show stakeholders a working prototype in a meeting instead of waiting days for mock-ups.
- Editable output: Screens are real layers that you can select and change, not flat images. Designers can treat the result as a starting draft and polish it, either in Flowstep or after copying to Figma.
- Developer handoff: Directories report code export in React, TypeScript and Tailwind CSS, and the MCP server feeds designs to coding agents. That shortens the gap between an approved screen and a working front end.
- Fair message counting: The pricing FAQ says failed generations do not count against your monthly allowance. Monthly quotas reset on the first of each month, which makes the Starter cap easier to plan around.
- Privacy commitments: Flowstep says personal data is not used for model training and that its language model providers are barred from training on it. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, according to the pricing FAQ.
Cons
The 80-message monthly cap on Starter is Flowstep’s tightest constraint, since every revision prompt uses one message from that allowance.
- Message cap: Starter allows 80 prompts a month, and each chat revision counts as one. Heavy users will run out quickly, so it helps to make small layout fixes by hand on the canvas.
- Narrow code export: Reviews mention React, TypeScript and Tailwind CSS only, and the official site does not list other frameworks. Teams working in Vue, Flutter or native mobile code will need to translate the output.
- Few independent reviews: Capterra and GetApp list no user ratings yet, and the 1.0 release is only months old. You have little outside evidence about reliability on large projects.
- Not a Figma replacement: Directories note that complex, highly customised design systems still need a full design editor. Flowstep works best as a fast first stage before detailed work elsewhere.
- Vague free plan: The free tier lists messages, projects and multi-screen generation only as limited, without exact numbers. Prices also appear in US dollars only, which complicates budgeting outside the US.
Who is Using Flowstep?
Developers and product managers without a dedicated designer are Flowstep’s core users, with designers using it mainly for quick starting layouts.
- Developers: Engineers generate screens without waiting for a designer. They then pull the designs into Cursor or Claude Code through MCP to build the front end.
- Product managers: PMs attach a PRD and turn it into a clickable prototype for reviews. This helps align stakeholders before any engineering time is spent.
- Designers: UI and UX professionals use it for quick exploratory layouts and alternative flows. They copy the best options into Figma for detailed refinement.
- Founders: Early-stage teams test app ideas with realistic screens at low cost. A shareable prototype link is often enough for user interviews or investor demos.
Pricing
Flowstep is freemium, with a Starter plan at $15 a month (official pricing page, October 2026).
| Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Limited messages, projects and multi-screen generation |
| Starter | $15 a month | 80 messages, unlimited projects, exports and Figma copies |
| Enterprise | Custom quote | Volume pricing, advanced security and dedicated support |
Annual billing saves up to 20%, and EveryDev reports Starter at $12 a month paid yearly. Every plan can be cancelled at any time, with access running to the end of the billing period.
Disclaimer: Flowstep has only just reached version 1.0, so its allowances may be revised; confirm them on the pricing page before upgrading.
What Makes Flowstep Unique?
Whole linked flows, not single screens, are what Flowstep produces. Many AI mock-up tools return one static image per prompt, whereas Flowstep builds a connected journey and pairs each screen with matching code.
Its MCP server adds a second difference. Coding agents such as Cursor and Claude Code can read the designs directly, which places Flowstep between a product brief and front-end code rather than alongside drawing tools.
Compatibilities and Integrations
Figma and four AI coding tools are Flowstep’s main connections, with everything running in a web browser.
- Platforms: Browser app with shareable prototype links and real-time team editing.
- Design tools: Two-way frame copying with Figma, with no plugin needed.
- Coding tools: MCP connection for Cursor, Claude Code, Windsurf and Codex.
- Inputs: Text prompts, screenshots, product URLs, PRD files and Figma frames.
- Exports: Code, Figma frames, PNG and JPG files.
Flowstep Tutorials
A detailed first prompt with a reference image gives the best Flowstep prototype in the fewest messages:
- Create a free account on flowstep.ai, with no card required.
- Set your design guidelines for colours, fonts and spacing.
- Describe your app and attach a screenshot, URL or PRD.
- Review the generated screens and click through the prototype.
- Refine layouts by chat for big changes and on the canvas for small ones.
- Copy frames to Figma, export code or connect your IDE through MCP.
How We Rated It
Flowstep scores 4.0 out of 5, lifted by strong Figma and MCP integration and pulled down by a tight message allowance and limited support material.
| Criterion | Score | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Accuracy and Reliability | 3.9/5 | Sensible layouts, some generic output |
| Ease of Use | 4.5/5 | Prompt and edit, no design skills |
| Functionality and Features | 4.2/5 | Flows, prototypes, design systems |
| Performance and Speed | 4.0/5 | Screens arrive in seconds |
| Customization and Flexibility | 4.0/5 | Chat plus manual canvas edits |
| Data Privacy and Security | 3.8/5 | No training on personal data |
| Support and Resources | 3.6/5 | Docs, no user reviews yet |
| Cost-Efficiency | 3.7/5 | Low price, tight message cap |
| Integration Capabilities | 4.4/5 | Figma, MCP, code export |
| Overall Score | 4.0/5 | Average of the nine criteria |
Summary
Flowstep suits developers, product managers and founders who need clickable, code-ready screens quickly. Its linked flows, Figma copying and MCP server make it more practical than single-screen mock-up generators. The main limitation is the 80-message Starter cap, which heavy users will reach fast. Detailed design systems still belong in a full editor. Write one thorough first prompt with a reference image, and make small fixes by hand to save messages.
