What is X-Design?
X-Design is an AI design suite for e-commerce and brand visuals that now operates under the name Zawa. You upload a product photo or type a prompt, and it produces cut-outs, product scenes, logos, social posts and short videos.
The product began life inside Meitu, the company behind several well-known photo apps. On 19 March 2026 a PR Newswire release from Sydney announced the rename to Zawa and a shift towards a creative AI agent for branding. The old x-design.com address now redirects to zawa.ai, and the website, App Store listing and privacy policy name Starii Technology Pty Ltd as the operator.
In practice the service combines two things. One half is a familiar toolbox of photo utilities such as background removal, upscaling and object removal. The other half is an agent that remembers a brand’s logo, colours and fonts and then drafts posters, menus, flyers, social carousels and product videos in that style.
Key Features
Product photo editing and Brand Memory carry the most weight, because together they turn one phone snapshot into a set of matching shop and social assets.
- Background removal: The background remover cuts a product out of its original photo in a single step. The clean cut-out can then go on a white marketplace backdrop or into a generated scene.
- AI product scenes: The background generator places an item in a lifestyle setting, such as a kitchen counter or outdoor table, from a short prompt. Sellers avoid booking a studio for every new listing.
- Brand Memory: Zawa stores a business’s logo, colour palette and typography, then applies them to every new design. Its site says brand guides include usage rules, which keeps posts consistent across a team.
- Bulk photo editing: A bulk editor applies the same edit, such as a cut-out or resize, to many images at once. This saves hours when a shop uploads a whole catalogue of similar products.
- Video generation: Prompts or still product shots become short clips for Instagram Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts. The site names video models including Seedance, Google Veo and Sora, available on paid plans.
- Layered, editable output: Directory listings and the official site describe outputs as layered files rather than flat images. Text, colours and elements can therefore be adjusted afterwards without regenerating the whole design.
Pros
Breadth in a single account is the strongest case for X-Design: product photos, logos, posts and videos all come from one workspace.
- Built for sellers: Templates and sizes match marketplace listings and social feeds rather than general art. Small online shops get usable images quickly without having to learn a professional editor such as Photoshop.
- Low skill needed: Guided tools and prompt boxes replace layers and masks for most tasks. Owners with no design training can produce a branded post within a few minutes.
- Useful free tier: The free plan allows up to 20 image edits and 12 generations a day, with no card required. That is enough to test the tool on several real products before paying.
- Wide model choice: Paid plans give access to several third-party models, including GPT Image, Seedream, Seedance and Google Veo. Users can compare outputs without opening separate accounts elsewhere.
- Positive user feedback: Tooldirectory.ai reports an average of 4.77 out of 5 from 128 reviews, and the iPhone app holds 4.3 from 59 ratings. Users mostly mention consistency and time saved.
Cons
Privacy is the weakest point, since Zawa’s policy allows user data to be transferred to Hong Kong, Singapore, the United States, the EU and other regions.
- Cross-border data transfers: The privacy policy lists several countries where data may be processed. Businesses handling unreleased product designs or client work should read it carefully before uploading anything confidential.
- Confusing rename: Older tutorials, reviews and links still use the X-Design name. New users may struggle to match guides to the current Zawa menus and plan names.
- Pricing hard to confirm: The official pricing page loads its rates dynamically, and App Store purchases range from $6.99 to $99.99. Buyers should check the price shown at checkout rather than trusting directory figures.
- No free video: Video generation sits behind a paid plan, so the free tier covers images only. Sellers mainly after Reels or TikTok clips need at least the Plus tier.
- Few integrations: We found no public plug-ins for Shopify, Canva or similar tools, and API access is limited to Enterprise. Files must usually be downloaded and uploaded to each channel by hand.
Who is Using X-Design?
Small online sellers form the core audience, joined by food and drink businesses that use the branding agent for menus and posters.
- Online sellers: Marketplace and web shop owners need quick, clean product photos. They use cut-outs and AI scenes in place of studio shoots.
- Restaurants and cafés: Food businesses use the food photography and menu tools. Testimonials on the site come mainly from this group.
- Social media managers: Marketers produce posts, carousels and short videos on brand. Brand Memory keeps colours and fonts consistent across campaigns.
- Fashion brands: Clothing labels show garments on virtual models or as flatlays. This cuts the cost of hiring models for every new collection.
Pricing
Zawa runs on a freemium model with Free, Plus, Pro, Max and Enterprise tiers (official plan names, directory-reported prices, checked October 2026).
| Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Daily image limits, no video |
| Plus | $9.99/month, reported | About 800 credits a month |
| Pro | $29.99/month, reported | About 3,500 credits, half-price video |
| Max | $59.99/month, reported | About 8,000 credits a month |
| Enterprise | Quote | API access and dedicated capacity |
Annual billing is reported at $5.83, $20.83 and $41.67 a month, and the App Store lists in-app purchases between $6.99 and $99.99.
Zawa’s rates can differ between the web, app stores and regions, so treat these numbers as a guide and confirm at checkout.
What Makes X-Design Unique?
A single account covers the whole path from a raw product photo to a finished brand: cut-outs, scenes, model shots, logos, brand guides, posts and video. Most rivals specialise in one step, such as Photoroom for product photos or Canva for templates.
The Brand Memory agent is the newer part. Instead of applying a template each time, the agent recalls stored brand rules and drafts assets in that style, which suits a café or small shop with no in-house designer.
Compatibilities and Integrations
X-Design works on the web, iPhone, iPad and Android, but connects to few outside tools beyond its built-in AI models.
- Platforms: Web app at zawa.ai plus Zawa apps for iPhone, iPad and Android. The iOS app requires iOS 13 or later.
- AI models: Plans cite image models such as GPT Image, Seedream and Nano Banana, and video models such as Seedance, Veo and Sora.
- Output: Layered, editable images and clips sized for shops, Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts, plus 4K mockups.
- Accounts and API: Former X-Design users sign in to Zawa with their existing assets. API access is reported only on Enterprise.

How We Rated It
X-Design earns 3.8 out of 5: strong, easy photo and branding tools are pulled down by weak integrations and broad data transfers.
| Criterion | Score | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Accuracy and Reliability | 3.9/5 | Clean cut-outs, uneven scenes |
| Ease of Use | 4.3/5 | Simple guided tools |
| Functionality and Features | 4.3/5 | Photos, branding and video |
| Performance and Speed | 4.0/5 | Quick single edits |
| Customization and Flexibility | 3.7/5 | Brand kits, template limits |
| Data Privacy and Security | 3.3/5 | Transfers across several regions |
| Support and Resources | 3.4/5 | Basic help centre |
| Cost-Efficiency | 3.9/5 | Generous free daily limits |
| Integration Capabilities | 3.0/5 | Few third-party connections |
| Overall Score | 3.8/5 | Average of the nine criteria |
Summary
X-Design, now Zawa, suits small sellers, cafés and social media managers who need product photos, brand assets and short videos without hiring a designer. Its breadth and Brand Memory agent make it more complete than most single-purpose photo editors. The main drawbacks are the paywall on video, unclear official pricing and data transfers across several regions. Start with the free daily allowance, test a handful of real products, and read the privacy policy before uploading unreleased designs.
