What is Sloyd?
Sloyd is a browser-based AI 3D model generator that creates game-ready and print-ready assets from text prompts or images. It then lets you rig, retexture and export them without leaving the web app.
The workflow starts with a prompt, one picture or several reference images. Sloyd produces a textured mesh in seconds, and you can then adjust topology, apply a new texture, split the model into parts or add a rig and animation. Finished models export to game engines, 3D software and slicers for printing, either as files or through plugins that drop the asset into an open scene.
Sloyd began inside a small Norwegian game studio, where developers built procedural and AI tools to speed up their own 3D work. Those internal tools grew into the current platform, and the company now describes itself as operating across the US and Europe with a small team of developers and researchers. Its site claims more than one million creators and lists links with a16z Speedrun, NVIDIA, Autodesk and Overwolf. One directory dates the AI product launch to March 2023, which Sloyd itself does not state.
Key Features
Unlimited generation across text, image, rigging and skyboxes is the core of Sloyd, backed by plugins that place models straight into your engine.
- Text and image to 3D: Sloyd turns a written prompt, a single picture or several reference images into a textured 3D model. Standard generations take seconds, so you can try many variations of a prop before choosing one to refine.
- Rigging and animation: Character models can be rigged automatically and given AI animation inside the browser. The documentation also covers a video motion tool, which lets you drive a rigged character with movement taken from a clip.
- Topology and texture control: You can set the polygon budget, request quad topology and retexture a model with a new prompt. An Ultra mode, paid with credits, raises the face budget to as many as 500,000 faces per generation.
- 3D printing preparation: A printing workflow produces watertight meshes, checks for non-manifold edges and adds a stable base. Models can go straight to OrcaSlicer or Bambu Studio, with multicolour print setup handled before export.
- Skyboxes and images: Sloyd generates 360-degree skybox environments and includes text-to-image, sketch-to-image and image editing tools. You can therefore create a reference picture first and then convert it into a 3D asset in the same app.
- Split to parts and styles: A decomposition tool breaks a model into separate editable parts, which helps when you need to animate a door or swap a wheel. Paid plans can also train custom art styles so a whole asset set looks consistent.
Pros
Volume at a flat price is why indie developers pick Sloyd: standard generations are unlimited on paid plans, which start at $15 a month.
- Unlimited standard generations: Paid plans do not charge per model for standard text or image generation, subject to fair use. Indie developers can iterate freely instead of rationing credits across a project.
- Low entry price: Sloyd Plus costs $15 a month, or $12.50 a month when billed yearly, and includes a commercial licence. That is a modest outlay for a solo developer who needs many props.
- Wide engine coverage: Plugins cover Unity, Unreal, Godot, Roblox Studio, Blender and Maya. Models arrive in your open scene with materials and textures intact, which removes a manual import step.
- One tool for several jobs: Generation, rigging, retexturing, skyboxes and print preparation sit in one browser app. Small teams avoid paying for and learning several separate services for each stage.
- Free plan without a card: The Guest tier allows one AI generation a day with no credit card. You can test output quality on your own prompts before committing any money to a subscription.
Cons
Licensing is the first hurdle with Sloyd, because the free Guest plan forbids commercial use and allows only one AI generation a day.
- Free plan is personal use only: Guest users get one AI generation a day and cannot use the results commercially. Anyone shipping a game or product must move to Plus or Pro first.
- Fair use still applies: The pricing page says fair-use limits, queue priority and plan capacity still apply despite the unlimited label. Heavy users on Plus may face slower queues during busy periods.
- API billed separately: Neither subscription includes the 3D generation API, which needs its own prepaid credits. Studios building Sloyd into a product should budget for API usage on top of seats.
- Variable results on complex shapes: AI output for detailed characters and organic forms often needs cleanup in Blender or Maya. Simple props and hard-surface objects usually need less manual work before use.
- Limited company disclosure: The about page names no founders, founding year or security certifications. Larger studios with procurement rules may need to request these details directly before adopting it.
Who is Using Sloyd?
Game developers form Sloyd’s main audience, with Roblox creators, 3D printing hobbyists and visualisation teams also named among its use cases.
- Indie game developers: Solo creators and small studios generate props, characters and environments. They export them through the Unity, Unreal or Godot plugins to fill levels quickly.
- Roblox creators: Roblox developers use the dedicated avatar creator and the Roblox Studio plugin. They build accessories and in-game items without traditional modelling skills.
- 3D printing hobbyists: Makers produce figurines, miniatures and household parts with print-ready meshes. They send models to OrcaSlicer or Bambu Studio for multicolour printing.
- Visualisation teams: Interior designers, e-commerce teams and previs artists create placeholder or product models. They use them to test layouts and storyboards before commissioning final assets.

What Makes Sloyd Unique?
Flat-rate unlimited generation is the clearest difference between Sloyd and most AI 3D rivals, which usually sell a fixed number of credits each month. Paying for credits pushes users to accept the first passable result, while Sloyd’s model encourages repeated attempts until a prop fits the style of a project. Credits only come into play for heavier Ultra generations and advanced features.
Breadth is the second difference. Sloyd covers the path from a prompt to a rigged, animated character in an engine, and it also handles skyboxes, sprite sheets, Roblox avatars and multicolour 3D printing. Its origin in a game studio shows in the plugin list, which reaches Godot and Roblox Studio as well as the larger engines.
Compatibilities and Integrations
Sloyd connects to six creative tools through plugins and sends print files to two slicers without any extra setup.
- Game engines: Plugins are documented for Unity, Unreal Engine, Godot and Roblox Studio. Install each one once from the Plugins page in the web app.
- 3D software: Blender and Maya plugins bring models straight into an open scene. FBX and GLB exports also work in most other packages.
- 3D printing: OrcaSlicer and Bambu Studio receive models without a plugin. The site lists STL, OBJ and 3MF output for printing workflows.
- API: A 3D generation API supports text, image and multi-image jobs that you submit, poll and download. It runs on prepaid credits rather than a subscription.
- Platform: Sloyd runs in a web browser with cloud generation, so no local GPU is needed. Uploads accept common interchange formats up to 500 MB per file.

Summary
Sloyd suits indie developers, Roblox creators and 3D printing hobbyists who need many usable models quickly and at a predictable cost. Its unlimited standard generation, low entry price and plugins for six creative tools make it practical for filling game levels. The main limitation is quality on complex organic shapes, which can still need manual cleanup. Larger studios should also ask about security and API costs before committing. Start on the free Guest plan with a prompt from your own project, and upgrade to Plus only once the output matches your art style.
