What is Coursebox?
Coursebox is an AI course creation platform paired with a white-label learning management system, so you can draft, host, sell and track online courses in one place.
The workflow starts with source material. You upload a PDF, Word file or slide deck, paste a URL or type a topic, and Coursebox proposes an outline. Its AI then writes lessons, builds quizzes, adds flashcards and branching scenarios, and can produce narrated videos. You refine everything in an editor before publishing to learners on the Coursebox portal or exporting a SCORM or LTI package to another LMS.
Coursebox is run by Travis Clapp as chief executive and Alex Hey as chief operating officer, and its about page places the company in Perth, Western Australia. The site claims more than 150,000 course creators and training companies in over 180 countries, and more than 300,000 courses created. One directory reports a version 3.0 release in May 2026 that added an agentic design assistant called Ask Coursebox, AI scenarios and slide-based videos.
Key Features
Coursebox pairs AI authoring with its own LMS, so a document can become a graded, branded course without switching tools.
- Document-to-course builder: Coursebox reads PDFs, Word files, slide decks, web pages or a short prompt and drafts a course outline with lessons. You then edit each section in a block-based editor rather than starting from a blank page.
- Assessments and AI grading: The platform generates quizzes in several question types and can mark open answers against a rubric it helps create. Learners receive written feedback, which cuts marking time for trainers running large cohorts.
- AI video and voice: An AI video generator produces narrated training clips with avatars or slides, and voice minutes are counted separately by plan. Pro + LMS includes 75 minutes of AI video a month, against one minute on Free.
- AI tutor for learners: A chat tutor answers learner questions using the course content as its source. Message allowances run from 100 on Free to 10,000 a month on Pro + LMS, so heavy courses need a higher tier.
- White-label LMS hosting: Pro + LMS adds your logo, colours and your own domain, with learner tracking, certificates and gamification. Every plan allows unlimited learners, so costs do not rise as enrolments grow.
- SCORM and LTI export: Creator exports PDF, HTML and SCORM files, while Pro + LMS adds self-hosted SCORM and LTI 1.3. Coursebox says self-hosted SCORM keeps working even after a subscription ends, which protects exported courses.
Pros
Speed from document to finished course is why trainers pick Coursebox, especially when they already hold manuals or slide decks to reuse.
- Fast first drafts: Turning existing manuals and slide decks into a draft course takes minutes rather than weeks. Small training teams gain the most, since they rarely have an instructional designer on staff.
- Unlimited learners: No plan charges per learner, according to the pricing page. Organisations onboarding hundreds of staff or selling to a large audience avoid the seat fees common in corporate LMS contracts.
- Authoring and hosting together: One subscription covers course writing, assessment, delivery and reporting. You avoid stitching a separate authoring tool to an LMS, though export remains available if you already own one.
- Built-in selling tools: Stripe, PayPal and Paystack payments, plus Shopify and WooCommerce links, let creators charge for courses. Bundles and sales dashboards help independent educators run a small course business from the same account.
- Stated data safeguards: Coursebox says customer content never trains public AI models and that it runs on Microsoft Azure OpenAI with ISO 27001 certified EU hosting. That reassures compliance teams in regulated sectors.
Cons
AI credit caps are the catch with Coursebox, because each kind of generation draws on its own monthly allowance that can run out on big projects.
- Credit-based AI limits: AI pages, images, video and voice minutes each come from separate allowances that reset monthly on paid plans. Large projects can exhaust credits mid-month, so estimate usage before choosing a tier.
- Opaque paid prices: Paid plan prices loaded dynamically and did not appear in our read of the official page, and directories quote different figures. You should confirm the current rate at checkout before budgeting.
- Branding needs a high tier: The Creator plan removes the watermark but does not include your own domain or full white label. Those sit in Pro + LMS, which directories report at several hundred dollars a month.
- Drafts need expert review: AI-generated lessons can be shallow or generic, and one directory reviewer called the content depth limited. Subject experts should check facts, examples and assessments before learners see them.
- Mixed usability feedback: Some directory reviewers praise speed, while at least one reported a confusing interface. Expect a learning curve when moving between the builder, LMS settings and the export options.
Who is Using Coursebox?
Corporate trainers, universities and independent course sellers make up most Coursebox users, according to its site and customer logos.
- Corporate training teams: Learning and development staff turn policies and manuals into onboarding and compliance courses. They track completions and issue certificates inside the branded portal.
- Universities and schools: Coursebox shows the University of Adelaide among its customer logos. Academic staff use it to build blended learning modules and quizzes from existing lecture material.
- Independent course creators: Coaches and consultants package their expertise as paid courses. Built-in payments and storefront links let them sell without a separate e-commerce platform.
- Training providers and agencies: Firms such as Assist Digital and Secure Meters appear among its logos. Providers build courses for several clients and export SCORM files into client systems.

Paid figures did not load on the official page during our check, so the Creator and Pro + LMS prices come from Futurepedia, which also lists a $700 Business tier the official page no longer shows; There’s An AI For That quotes a $42 monthly starting price instead. The official page does list yearly billing with two months free and an SSO add-on at $3,000 a year.
Disclaimer: Coursebox prices vary by billing cycle and promotion, so check the live checkout before you commit.
What Makes Coursebox Unique?
Unlimited learners on every plan, combined with authoring and hosting in one product, is the clearest Coursebox difference. Many AI course writers stop at export, and many LMS products charge per active user, so Coursebox removes both a tool and a seat bill.
Its export policy is the second difference. Courses can leave as SCORM or LTI packages for Moodle, Canvas, Cornerstone or TalentLMS, and Coursebox says self-hosted SCORM keeps working after cancellation. That lowers lock-in for teams worried about building content inside a newer platform.
Compatibilities and Integrations
Coursebox runs in the browser and connects to other learning systems through SCORM and LTI, plus payment and automation tools.
- LMS export: SCORM on Creator, with self-hosted SCORM and LTI 1.3 on Pro + LMS for systems such as Moodle, Canvas and TalentLMS.
- Payments and stores: Stripe, PayPal and Paystack handle checkout, with Shopify and WooCommerce links for storefronts.
- Business tools: The LMS page lists Zapier, Salesforce, WordPress and an API, with full API access on Enterprise.
- Identity: Single sign-on comes with Enterprise or as a paid add-on.
- Languages and AI: Coursebox claims content in more than 100 languages and runs on Microsoft Azure OpenAI.

How We Rated It
Coursebox earns 4.0 out of 5, with broad authoring and LMS features lifted by unlimited learners but held back by credit caps and unclear paid prices.
| Criterion | Score | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Accuracy and Reliability | 3.7/5 | Good drafts, needs expert review |
| Ease of Use | 4.0/5 | Guided builder, some clutter |
| Functionality and Features | 4.6/5 | Authoring, LMS, video, grading |
| Performance and Speed | 4.3/5 | Courses drafted in minutes |
| Customization and Flexibility | 4.0/5 | Full branding on higher tiers |
| Data Privacy and Security | 4.1/5 | Azure OpenAI, ISO 27001 hosting |
| Support and Resources | 3.8/5 | Docs and email, varied feedback |
| Cost-Efficiency | 3.6/5 | Free tier, opaque paid prices |
| Integration Capabilities | 4.2/5 | SCORM, LTI, Zapier, payments |
| Overall Score | 4.0/5 | Average of the nine criteria |
Summary
Coursebox suits training teams, schools and course sellers who want AI to turn existing material into hosted, trackable courses quickly. Its main limitation is cost clarity, since paid prices did not load on the official page and AI work is metered by several credit types. Draft lessons are a starting point rather than finished teaching, so plan time for expert review. We rate it highly for features and lower for pricing transparency. Build one mini course on the free plan from a real manual, then check credit use before upgrading.
