What is Wispr Flow?
Wispr Flow is an AI voice dictation app that converts what you say into polished text in any application. The company says it is four times faster than typing.
It works at the system level, so there are no plugins to install for each app. You trigger Flow, speak naturally and the text appears where your cursor is. The AI removes filler words, adds punctuation and formats the text.
Key Features
Wispr Flow’s key features are system-wide voice dictation in more than 100 languages, automatic editing that removes filler words and corrections, a personal dictionary, snippets and a bot-free meeting Notetaker for Mac and Windows.
- Dictation in any app: Types wherever your cursor is, with no plugin for each app. Wispr names Gmail, Slack, iMessage, Notion, the terminal, code editors, ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor.
- Automatic editing: Removes filler words, false starts and mid-sentence corrections, then adds punctuation, paragraphs and structured lists, so the text needs less tidying than a raw transcript.
- 100+ languages: Detects the spoken language automatically, with a manual language choice when you prefer to set it yourself.
- Style adaptation: Adjusts the tone of the output between formal, casual and very casual writing styles.
- Personal dictionary: Learns names, acronyms and jargon so they are spelled correctly next time. Pro and higher plans add a dictionary shared across the team.
- Snippets: Inserts saved text for phrases you use often when you say a spoken cue, and Pro teams can share snippets.
- Flow Notetaker: Records meetings on your device without a bot joining the call, then identifies speakers and writes topic-organised summaries with next steps. It covers Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Slack huddles and in-person meetings.
- Four platforms: Dictation runs on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android, and every plan, including Free, covers all four.
Pros
Wispr Flow’s main advantages are that one tool dictates into every app, the output arrives already edited, the Free plan is usable each week and the company publishes its security certifications.
- No per-app setup: Flow works at the system level, so one install covers email, chat, documents and code editors without separate plugins.
- Clean output: Filler words and corrections are removed and punctuation is added as you speak, which means less editing than standard dictation.
- Usable free plan: Free includes 2,000 words a week on desktop and 1,000 on mobile, plus the dictionary, snippets and limited Notetaker access.
- Desktop and mobile: Mac, Windows, iOS and Android are all supported, which several rival dictation apps do not match.
- Bot-free meeting notes: Notetaker runs on your device, so no recording bot appears in the participant list.
- Published certifications: Wispr states SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certification and HIPAA compliance, and says it holds zero data retention agreements with all third-party AI providers.
- Education discount: Students and educators with an education email get 50% off Pro, and nonprofits are offered a discounted rate.
Cons
Wispr Flow’s main drawbacks are that all transcription runs in the cloud, the Free plan stops at 2,000 words a week on desktop, and the Notetaker is limited to Mac and Windows.
- Cloud processing only: Wispr’s data controls page says transcription happens in the cloud and audio cannot be processed locally, so dictation depends on an internet connection.
- Weekly cap on Free: Free allows 2,000 words a week on desktop and 1,000 on mobile. Unlimited dictation needs Pro at $15 per user a month, or $12 on annual billing.
- Subscription only: Every paid plan is billed per user each month or year, and no one-time purchase option is listed.
- Notetaker is desktop only: Notetaker runs on Mac and Windows, mobile is described as on the roadmap, and Free accounts have a weekly meeting limit.
- Training guarantee on higher plans: The pricing table lists “models never trained on your data” for Growth and Enterprise only. On Free and Pro, check the Data and Privacy setting yourself.
- Mixed reliability reviews: A review published by a competing dictation app reports slowdowns. We have not tested this.
Who is Using Wispr Flow?
- Knowledge workers: Write emails and messages faster.
- Developers: Dictate prompts to coding assistants.
- Writers and students: Draft notes and long documents.
- People who find typing difficult: Use voice as the main input.

What Makes Wispr Flow Unique?
Wispr Flow stands out for editing as it transcribes. Standard dictation types every word you say, including the false starts, while Flow aims to write what you meant. It also adapts formatting to the app in use.
