Wonder Studio

Wonder Studio is an AI visual effects platform that turns live-action footage into editable 3D scenes. Built by Wonder Dynamics, it was acquired by Autodesk in 2024 and renamed Autodesk Flow Studio in 2025. It runs in a web browser and exports to Maya, Blender and Unreal. A free tier exists, with paid plans reported from $10 a month.

What is Wonder Studio?

Wonder Studio is a cloud-based AI tool that converts live-action video into editable CG scenes, and it now sells under the name Autodesk Flow Studio. You upload a shot, pick a 3D character, and the software tracks the actor, the camera and the lighting so the character can replace the performer. Autodesk describes Flow Studio as a 3D toolset powered by Autodesk AI that works without suits, markers or complex studio setups. It also produces separate elements such as motion capture data, camera tracks, clean plates and alpha masks for use in other 3D software.

Wonder Dynamics, co-founded by Nikola Todorovic and actor Tye Sheridan, launched Wonder Studio in 2023. Autodesk announced the acquisition on 21 May 2024 and folded the product into Flow, its media and entertainment cloud. CG Channel reports that the tool was renamed Flow Studio in March 2025. Autodesk then added Wonder 3D asset generation in March 2026 and a 3D Editor plus Canvas workspace in August 2026. The product was live and taking sign-ups in October 2026, so the Wonder Studio name now refers to an active Autodesk service rather than a closed one.

Key Features

  • Markerless AI motion capture: Flow Studio captures body, face and hand movement from ordinary video without suits or markers. You can export the motion as data for your own rig, which makes performance capture possible with a phone or a single camera.
  • Live action to CG: Wonder Studio replaces an actor in live footage with a 3D character and matches the lighting automatically. The system tracks the performer across the shot, so the CG character follows the original movement and camera angle.
  • Camera tracking and clean plates: Flow Studio generates a camera track and a clean plate with the actor removed from the background. These export-ready elements save hours of manual tracking and paint work before compositing starts.
  • Alpha masks and character passes: Flow Studio outputs alpha masks and separate character passes for each shot. Compositors can then rebuild the scene in their own software and adjust the result frame by frame, though CG Channel reports character passes require higher plans.
  • USD scene export: Flow Studio exports scenes in USD format to Maya, Blender, Unreal Engine and 3ds Max. Artists keep the camera, character animation and environment together, so they can continue the shot in familiar software.
  • Character generation and auto-rigging: Autodesk says Flow Studio creates textured 3D characters from text or images and rigs them automatically. That gives small teams a starting character without a modeller or rigger, although detailed hero assets still need manual polish.
  • Wonder 3D asset generation: Wonder 3D turns text prompts or reference images into 3D models, according to CG Channel’s March 2026 report. Each generation costs 20 credits and downloads as OBJ or STL, and Autodesk frames the results as base assets for further refinement.
  • 3D Editor and Canvas: The 3D Editor and Canvas workspace, released on 4 August 2026, lets you block scenes in 3D and refine them in a node-based AI workflow. Autodesk says it is available on all five subscription tiers, from Free to Enterprise.
  • Third-party AI models: Canvas gives access to outside generative models, which Autodesk lists as including Veo, Seedance, Kling, Gemini and Marble from World Labs. Users can mix those image and video models with their own 3D blocking instead of relying on text prompts alone.

Pros

  • No mocap hardware needed: Wonder Studio removes the need for motion capture suits, markers and dedicated stages. An independent filmmaker can shoot an actor on a normal camera and still get usable body, face and hand animation.
  • Fits existing pipelines: Flow Studio exports to Maya, Blender, Unreal Engine and 3ds Max through USD and other formats. Studios can treat it as one stage of a pipeline rather than a closed app, and keep final lighting and rendering in their own tools.
  • Low entry price: Flow Studio has a free tier and a Lite plan reported at $10 a month or $80 a year. Autodesk cut prices in August 2025, according to CG Channel, which made AI-assisted VFX far cheaper to test than before.
  • Directable rather than one-click: Autodesk positions Flow Studio as controllable AI that you refine, not a black box. You can edit tracks, passes and scenes after processing, which suits artists who want creative control over each shot.
  • Backed by Autodesk: Autodesk ownership gives Wonder Studio a long-term owner, Autodesk support plans and links to the Media and Entertainment Collection. Paid plans include business-hours support, and the product keeps gaining features such as Wonder 3D and the 3D Editor.

Cons

  • Credits run out quickly: Flow Studio meters every job against a monthly credit pool, and unused credits expire at reset. Pricing tracker UsagePricing notes that new features such as Wonder 3D draw on the same pool, so heavy users may need a higher tier.
  • Free tier is limited: The free plan gives 300 credits a month, which CG Channel equates to about 30 seconds of AI motion capture. It was reported as motion-capture only with watermarked output, so it works for testing rather than client projects.
  • Results still need cleanup: AI tracking and lighting matches can show inconsistencies in busy backgrounds or difficult light. Expect to fix some frames in a compositing or 3D package, and Autodesk itself calls Wonder 3D output iterative rather than final.
  • Cloud and upload dependent: Flow Studio processes footage in Autodesk’s cloud, so you need a fast connection to upload shots and download passes. Teams with strict rules about sending unreleased footage off-site may need Enterprise terms or a different tool.
  • Name change causes confusion: Wonder Studio, Wonder Dynamics, Flow Studio and Autodesk Flow are now overlapping names. Older tutorials and directory listings still show the old brand and outdated prices such as $19.99 a month, which can mislead new buyers.

Who is Using Wonder Studio?

  • Independent filmmakers: Add CG characters to live shots without hiring a mocap studio.
  • VFX and animation studios: Speed up tracking, clean plates and previsualisation before final work.
  • Content creators and agencies: Produce character-driven video and ads with smaller crews.
  • Students and educators: Learn AI-assisted VFX through free Lite access on Autodesk’s education plan.

Pricing

Wonder Studio, now Autodesk Flow Studio, has a free tier and paid plans from $10 to $95 a month (reported prices, checked October 2026).

Plan Price What you get
Free $0 300 credits a month, motion capture, watermarked output
Lite $10/month or $80/year 2,100 credits a month, no character passes or USD scenes
Standard $45/month or $360/year 6,000 credits a month, most export options
Pro $95/month or $765/year 12,000 credits a month, full feature set and exports
Enterprise Contact sales Larger credit pool and custom terms

Autodesk’s own pricing page lists the five tiers and a 33% saving on annual billing, but its figures did not load when we checked, so the amounts above come from CG Channel’s August 2025 report and a UsagePricing tracker that said the rate card was unchanged in August 2026. Some directories still quote the old $19.99 monthly Lite price from before the rename. Eligible students and educators can get Lite free through the Autodesk Education plan. Credit costs per feature can move between releases, so confirm the live rate on Autodesk’s store before you plan a project around it.

What Makes Wonder Studio Unique?

Wonder Studio starts from real camera footage rather than a text prompt. Most AI video tools generate pixels from scratch, while Flow Studio reconstructs the actor, camera and scene in 3D and hands you editable data. That means the output can move into Maya, Blender or Unreal for proper lighting and rendering. The 2026 additions of Wonder 3D and the 3D Editor with Canvas push it further, combining capture, asset creation and generative video under one Autodesk account.

Compatibilities and Integrations

  • Platform: Runs in a web browser with processing in Autodesk’s cloud, so no local GPU is required.
  • 3D software: Exports scenes to Maya, Blender, Unreal Engine and 3ds Max, with USD files usable in other tools.
  • Export data: Provides motion capture data, camera tracks, clean plates, alpha masks, character passes and OBJ or STL models.
  • Autodesk ecosystem: Pro subscriptions are reported to be included in Autodesk’s Media and Entertainment Collection.

Wonder Studio is used to replace actors in live-action footage with 3D characters. It tracks body, face, hands and camera movement, matches lighting, and exports motion data, clean plates, masks and scenes for Maya, Blender or Unreal Engine.

Yes, under a new name. Autodesk bought Wonder Dynamics in May 2024 and renamed Wonder Studio to Autodesk Flow Studio in March 2025. The service was live in October 2026 with free and paid plans and new 3D Editor features.

Flow Studio starts free with 300 monthly credits. Reported paid prices are $10 a month for Lite, $45 for Standard and $95 for Pro, with annual billing cheaper. Enterprise pricing requires a quote from Autodesk's sales team.

No. Flow Studio uses markerless AI motion capture that reads body, face and hand movement from ordinary video. You do not need suits, markers or a special stage, although clear footage with the actor in view gives better tracking.

Flow Studio exports to Autodesk Maya, Blender, Unreal Engine and 3ds Max, mainly through USD scene files. You can also download motion capture data, camera tracks, clean plates, alpha masks and generated OBJ or STL models.

Flow Studio gives each plan a monthly credit allowance that pays for processing jobs such as motion capture, live-action shots and Wonder 3D models. Credits reset every month and unused ones expire, so plan larger projects around your tier.

Autodesk added two major updates in 2026. Wonder 3D arrived in March for text-to-3D and image-to-3D models, and the 3D Editor and Canvas workspace launched in August for blocking scenes and refining them with generative AI models.

Move.ai and DeepMotion are worth comparing for AI motion capture from video, while Rokoko suits creators who want capture hardware and software together. For fully generative video rather than 3D character replacement, Runway is the better-known option to test.
